The combination of memory foam and steel coils can be a dream for sleepers searching for both support and pressure relief. But is this 13-inch mattress really as cozy as advertised?

In this Nectar Premier Hybrid mattress review, I plan to help answer that question. I’ll go over the ins and outs of this bed, from its firmness level to its motion isolation. First up, let’s talk about who I do and don’t recommend the Nectar Premier Hybrid mattress for.

Before we get started, I want to point out that firmness is subjective. A mattress will feel firmer or softer to different sleepers depending on their body weight, shape, and preferred sleeping position. In order to get an accurate idea of how firm the Nectar Premier Hybrid feels, I like to ask my coworkers for their opinions and then average our firmness scores together.

The industry standard for medium-firm on the firmness scale is a 6.5 out of 10 — and that’s exactly where we put the Nectar Premier Hybrid. Although its top foams cushion your body, you still feel propped up and supported.

Now I want to go over a few performance factors, including support in different sleeping positions, pain relief, and performance for couples. See below how the Nectar Premier Hybrid does in these categories.

A bed will perform differently based on your sleep position and body type. Your sleeping position should be a key factor you’re keeping in mind when searching for a mattress, but different body weights also need different amounts of pressure point relief and support.

Let’s go over how the Nectar Premier Hybrid performs for different kinds of sleepers.

It’s essential to think about how well a bed can alleviate pressure at the shoulder and hips when on your mattress shopping journey. This is especially important for anyone who has existing aches or pains. A pressure-relieving mattress can help prevent and alleviate soreness and stiffness.

I measured how well the Nectar Premier Hybrid relieves pressure by using a pressure map. It uses heat mapping technology to indicate where pressure is forming across the body while lying on the mattress. What you need to know when you’re looking at the results below is blue to green areas indicate low pressure while orange to red areas show high pressure.

Back Pain — These are great results for back sleepers with back pain and a lot of side sleepers with back pain, as it’s showing very minimal pressure in both sleeping positions. However, it’s going to be too soft of a mattress for most stomach sleepers with back pain and I’d recommend they go for something firmer to ensure spinal alignment.

Shoulder Pain — These results show no real pressure forming for back sleepers, which is a great sign for any back sleepers who suffer from shoulder pain. You can see some pressure starting to form for side sleepers though, so I think side sleepers with sensitive shoulder joints or pain may want to go for a softer mattress to get more relief in the area. Again, I think it’ll be too soft a mattress for most stomach sleepers.

Hip Pain – Back sleeping and side sleeping both showed very little pressure forming around the hip area. I think the Nectar Premier Hybrid mattress could be a good option for that reason for these sleepers. This will be too soft of a bed for most stomach sleepers with hip pain though, and could cause further aches by pushing their spine out of alignment. If you sleep with a partner, you’re likely going to keep a few extra factors in mind that might not matter as much for solo sleepers. For example, you’ll want to know how well your mattress absorbs motion, whether or not it’s good for sex, if it has strong and sturdy edges, and if it will keep you both cool. Take a look at how the Nectar Premier Hybrid performs in these categories below.

Motion transfer is how strongly movement carries across a mattress. This can be important for people who share the bed with a partner or pet and don’t want to be disturbed in the night if they’re moving around. A bed with good motion isolation stops the movement from traveling from one side to the other.

To test motion transfer, I dropped a 10-pound steel ball from heights of four inches, eight inches, and 12 inches, and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

These were pretty average motion transfer results, which is typical of a hybrid mattress with bouncy coils. I don’t think you’d feel a partner or pet’s small movements on the Nectar Premier Hybrid, such as slight tossing and turning, but you will likely feel them getting in or out of bed.

The best mattress for sex is going to be both responsive and bouncy, so you and your partner can move around easily during bedroom activities. I consider the Nectar Premier Hybrid to be both of these things, so I think it’d be a good mattress for sex.

Two people tend to overheat quicker than a solo sleeper. Because of its breathable cover and coils, I think the Premier Hybrid should sleep pretty cool.

Edge support is a measure of how well the perimeter of the bed supports weight and whether you can sit or sleep near the edge of the bed. Edge support can also be a good measure of a mattress’ durability and whether it may sag over time.

The Nectar Premier Hybrid’s perimeter sinks a little when sitting on the edge of the bed, but it stays pretty stable while sleeping near it. Because of this, I’d say the Nectar Premier Hybrid has good edge support.

To give you an even more in-depth look at this 13-inch mattress, I want to go over its layers.

Cover – The top layer is a quilted cooling cover with Microban antimicrobial protection. This is a breathable material that also fights against bacteria growth. It’s made of polyester, nylon, and polyethylene.

Comfort Layers – Then there’s a 1-inch contouring memory foam layer, which conforms to sleepers’ bodies. contouring memory foam to conform to pressure points.

Support Foam Layer – Here is a 2-inch layer of support foam to help keep sleepers’ spines supported and in alignment.

Transition Layer – Next up is one inch of poly foam foam that helps transition from the foam layers to the springs in the bed.

Base Layer — The support layer is 8-inch individually wrapped coils with edge support. These springs are good for airflow and also keeping the bed durable.

Stability Layer — The final layer is a 1-inch foam layer to keep the mattress in place.

Like most online mattresses or bed-in-a-box mattresses, the Nectar Premier Hybrid has a 24- to 48-hour off-gassing period. During this time, your mattress will fully decompress and release any trapped gasses in its foams. This may cause your mattress to release a slight odor, but it’s nothing to be concerned about. If you’re worried about the smell, place your new mattress in a well-ventilated room and avoid adding sheets for a day or so.

Before we finish this review and head our separate ways, I want to go over some of my favorite (and not-so-favorite) aspects of the Nectar Premier Hybrid.

I like how this mattress can work for a wide variety of sleepers. It’s pressure relieving, supportive, and durable — which is great for back sleepers, side sleepers, and couples. Anyone searching for a medium-firm hybrid mattress could find this Nectar to be as sweet as… well… Nectar. I also appreciate how breathable the cover is and think hot sleepers could really like this bed.

I don’t think this mattress is going to work for strict stomach sleepers weighing over 130 pounds and would suggest checking out one of our favorite firm mattresses instead. These sleepers need their hips to be propped up and in line with their shoulders in order to prevent back pain in the future. I also think anyone who’s familiar with Nectar’s all-foam mattresses and are hoping this hybrid will have a similar feel could be disappointed by how responsive and fast-moving the foam is.
